Among the names on the Foundation’s honour roll is a company rather than a person. CBRE Group gives to the Fire Fighters Foundation of Houston in memory of Anthony Morado Sr., a retired Senior Captain of the Houston Fire Department.

Why the shape of it matters.

Most corporate giving is general. A tribute partnership is specific. It ties a company’s support to one firefighter by name, which makes the relationship personal for the employees behind it and durable in a way that a single annual cheque rarely is.

The Foundation treats it as a model. Any Houston company can give in memory or in honour of a firefighter, and the Friends of Houston Firefighters programme is built to formalise exactly this kind of relationship with the station that serves a company’s campus.
