The Foundation began with an argument and a date. Houston’s firefighters needed help to establish the department as the country’s hallmark, and the fifth anniversary of the September 11 attacks was the moment to ask for it.

With support from community leaders, firefighters, friends and volunteers, the Fire Fighter Foundation of Houston hosted its landmark kick-off event and fundraiser on September 11, 2006, celebrating local heroes and honouring those lost in 2001.

That date has anchored the Foundation’s calendar ever since, and the annual evening it started has run in one form or another for nearly twenty years.
