When the coronavirus arrived, the Foundation made a simple argument on its own site. Everyone wanted the best protection they could get. Houston’s firefighters were on the front line, and when EMS is called in this city, it is firefighters who answer. They deserved as much support as could be given them.
What that meant in practice.
The equipment ledger for 2020 reads like the year itself. In April, two Zodiac inflatable rescue boats. In May, a Victory electrostatic decontamination sprayer from Federal Resources. In June, 3,772 custom face and glove belt pouches from Bound Tree Medical.
The longer record.
The same ledger runs back to 2006 and forward past the pandemic. Rescue boats that proved essential during Hurricane Harvey. Extractors in every station. Thermal cameras, radios, ventilation saws, treadmills, K-9 equipment and high-water vehicles. Every line carries a vendor, a date and an amount, because that is how a volunteer-run charity keeps the trust of its donors.
